Benefits of olive oil for your hair and skin

Olive oil has been around for centuries and most people only know the product to be used as a cooking ingredient. It has been well known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties in our diets, but they also have amazing benefits when used in beauty treatments.

Dermal therapist, Yadira Cauchi says that olive oil has been used in skin care as an anti-wrinkle treatment dating back to ancient Egypt. Olive oil-based beauty treatments are therefore not a new concept and they are just as effective today as they were before. SA Olive has reported that more South African producers are introducing products containing olive oil as they are realising how popular and effective the ingredient is.

According to SA Olive CEO, Victoria Jooste, people are increasingly wanting more natural products with excellent properties that are from a good, local source. Using olive oil in your beauty treatments is a great way to get amazing beauty benefits while also sticking to a natural routine. Whether you would be using olive oil in your hair or on your skin, it is a great way to increase hydration in your beauty treatments.

According to Insider, Olive oil has many benefits for your hair:

Moiserises hair. Olive oil contains oleic acid which is an emollient that has softening and moisturising  properties.

Helps to prevent split ends. The moisturising properties helps to strengthen hair and increases elasticity.

Helps to smooth hair and reduce frizz. Olive oil contains vitamin E which can also help to support a healthy scalp which could promote hair growth.

According to Dermatologist Dr Samantha Davidson, olive oil has some benefits in skin care

Soothes the skin. Olive oil has an emollient ingredient which provides some soothing properties which is great if you are suffering from inflammation.

It contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. Antioxidants helps to fight free radicals which has been known to damage the skin. It therefore helps to prevent premature aging. The anti-inflammatory properties can help heal damaged skin.

It hydrates the skin. We know that olive oil has great moisturising properties especially for your hair but it also hydrates your skin. It is therefore great for those with dry or combination skin.
