In business together

by Fundiswa Nkwanyana
Why Cook

We chat to Yolanda Nomoyi about Why Cook, the catering business she owns with Mathapelo Montsho. By Fundiswa Nkwanyana

We combined our interests to start Why Cook in 2014. This was because Mathapelo and I loved entrepreneurship, and felt that our strengths in the kitchen and running the business would enable us to succeed.

We are professional chefs, and provide delicious and appetising meals for any occasion. We do not only prepare meals, but also pride ourselves in providing an unforgettable dining experience. Most of our clients are in the corporate sector. We cater for their events, meetings and trainings sessions. We also work with clients that want to host guests without having to deal with the hassle of cooking.

Our clients love our home-cooked style meals. They love our unique flavours which come from the fresh ingredients we use. We enjoy experimenting with our dishes, and giving old recipes a new twist.

Staff management is a big challenge for us. Our business is growing, and we often struggle to manage the staff. We seek advice from our peers and mentors to help us overcome this challenge.

We are glad that we took a leap of faith, and started our business. It has not been easy, and we are grateful to the people that continue to support us. Having a business is hard work, and we will continue to do our best.
