Zoleka Mandela exposes Mama Winnie’s mischievous side

by Ayanda Sithole
Zoleka Mandela and her grandmother Winnie Mandela

Who would have known that Mama Winnie Mandela was not just a stern freedom fighter, but also a playful, mischievous grandmother. Her granddaughter Zoleka Mandela shared a hilarious memory of Mama Winnie, exposing her mischievous side.

While some of us wouldn’t dare challenge our grandmothers to read one of histories sauciest books, Fifty Shades of Grey, Zoleka clearly had a good enough relationship with Mama Winnie to gift it to her as a must read.

Zoleka posted a picture of the copy of the book she gave to Mama Winnie, and explained that she found it in her bedroom, which set her down memory lane.

“You guys look what I found in my grandmother’s stash when i was packing up her things!!! I was in stitches after I came across it in her bedroom.”

Zoleka goes on to explain how she gave the book to Mama Winnie and insisted that she read it.

Eventually she asks her grandmother what she thought of the book and Mama Winnie simply replied.

“Darling, I keep getting stares from people each time they see me reading it!”

Zoleka goes on to explain that Mama Winnie wrote a message in the book that it belonged to Zoleka, so people would think she left it in her room accidentally.

Here’s what Zoleka posted:

You guys, look what I found in My Day One’s/my grandmother’s stash when I was packing up her things!!! I was in stitches after I came across it in her bedroom. I gave her this book and insisted that she read it and I remember when I asked, “So, Ma … How’s the book treating you? I smiled and winked at her, she smiled back and said, “Darling, I keep getting stares from people each time they see me reading it!” ? I think that’s why she wrote my name on it, so she could always tell people that I must have left it in her room and that the book wasn’t hers or something like that? ? Look how much of the book she read though and how she used an envelope as a book marker!!! ? Listen, guys … You have no idea how hilarious my grandmother was, her bawdy humour always had me tearing up from laughter!!! ? The things that used to come out of her mouth though … Best DAY ONE in the world, I tell you!!! ?
