New platform discovered to provide young doctors with job opportunities

Finding a job as a newly qualified doctor in South Africa can be tough, with more than 1,800 graduates struggling to secure employment.

Recent reports highlight sky-high vacancy rates and unemployment among medical professionals that have plagued South Africa’s public health sector.

In September 2024, it was revealed that only 60% of doctors who completed their community service in 2023 secured funded medical officer posts in government facilities. The remaining 40% sought employment in private healthcare, faced unemployment, or considered emigration.
A new project by Profmed provides a win-win solution for medical graduates and the healthcare system. FinDR, a free online platform, is designed to help unemployed medical graduates connect with healthcare facilities that need their skills.

FinDR effectively bridges the gap between young doctors looking for work and medical practices, clinics, and hospitals seeking extra hands.

The process is made simple for graduate medical professionals:

1. Unemployed doctors create a profile on the platform.

2. Medical practices and healthcare facilities list job opportunities for locum or full-time positions.

3. The platform matches doctors with suitable job openings, helping them gain valuable work experience and contribute to the healthcare system.

Profmed now calls on young doctors and medical facilities to sign up for FinDR and be part of a movement that aims to improve the future of healthcare in South Africa.

As an added incentive for graduates to sign up for the platform, Profmed offers six months of free medical aid to the first 100 unemployed doctors under 30 who sign up for FinDR.
