Team South Africa shines at the Commonwealth Games

Team South Africa delivered an inspiring performance at the Commonwealth Games, showcasing determination, talent, and national pride. Athletes from across the country competed with passion, earning medals and setting personal bests in a wide range of sporting disciplines.

South Africa dominates Commonwealth Games 2026

The South African team continues to make a massive splash at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Heading into yesterday evening’s event, which was day four, the team had already secured six medals, all coming from the swimming pool. 

At the time of publication, Team South Africa currently holds the 6th position overall. Our athletes put on a stellar performance over the first three days, bringing the current medal tally to nine (three Gold, two Silver, and four Bronze).

According to reports, Ruard van Renen took home the bronze medal. Pieter Coetzee dominated the men’s 50m backstroke, breaking the Games record three times in a row (first in the heats, then in the semi-finals and finally in the final), taking gold with a time of 24.18 seconds. 

This shared podium marked the first time two South African men shared a Commonwealth swimming podium since 2018. 

Beyond the medals, Team South Africa has displayed outstanding sportsmanship by respecting opponents, celebrating diversity, and representing the country with honour.  

Their achievements continue to strengthen South Africa’s reputation as a nation capable of producing world-class athletes. 

South Africans are looking forward to another action-packed day of more medals.  

Chad le Clos breaks records

At the age of 34, Chad continues to dominate. Le Clos made history by becoming the most decorated male athlete in Commonwealth Games history. He won his 19th Commonwealth Games medal as part of Team South Africa’s bronze medal-winning men’s 4×100m freestyle relay team, breaking the previous record of 18 medals.

He also competed in the 100m butterfly, where he advanced to the final and finished fifth. If the currency of success is winning medals, then we all know Le Clos is officially the Commonwealth Games GOAT.
