Junior Boks crowned back-to-back Junior World Championship victors

South Africa has once again conquered the world of age-group rugby when the Junior Springboks were crowned Junior World Championship winners after a hard-fought 16-5 victory over France on Saturday, 18 July 2026.

Displaying resilience, skill, and composure throughout the tournament, the Junior Boks once again proved why they are one of the brightest teams in international rugby.

Their title-winning run showcased a blend of powerful forward play, clinical finishing, and disciplined defence that overwhelmed some of the best young talent from around the globe.

Junior Boks title defence

This title defence marks yet another significant milestone for South African rugby and highlights the strength of the country’s player development system. 

The Junior Boks consistently delivered under pressure, displaying the confidence and maturity required to perform on rugby’s biggest age-grade stage. 

Throughout the tournament, the team demonstrated exceptional teamwork and composure, with standout performances from both the forwards and backs.

Their ability to execute under pressure and adapt to different styles of play was instrumental in securing consecutive world titles. 

This previous weekend’s final was a challenging test of character. There were lightning-storm delays, forcing the players to remain focused and adaptable. But once the match began, France brought a physical, aggressive style that tested the South Africans to their limit.  

But in true Boks style, the Junior Boks prevailed and relied on their defence to hold off the relentless French team. 

Words from the coach

Head coach Kevin Foote praised the team’s resilience, saying, “It means everything to us, it means everything to South Africa.” 

Foote later said that he credited the squad’s ability to stay calm under pressure and noted that the players who came off the bench provided crucial energy when it was needed the most. 

Coaches, supporters, and rugby fans across the country celebrated the historic triumph, recognising the dedication and hard work that went into another successful World Championship campaign.  

The victory not only reinforces South Africa’s status as a global rugby powerhouse but also provides exciting prospects for the future of the national game.
