Former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune showed brotherly love to the team’s current captain and goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams, after Canada eliminated the squad from the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He applauded his performance, noting that he has his full respect.
The tournament’s co-host scored a goal during the 90+2′ during the Round of 32 on Sunday, 28 June 2026.

Itumeleng Khune sings Ronwen Williams’ praises
On 1 July 2026, Khune hopped onto his Instagram account and shared a few pictures and videos of himself and the Mamelodi Sundowns player, who earned the title of the ninth-best goalkeeper worldwide at the 2024 Ballon d’Or awards.
Affectionately referring to him as Ronza, Khune stated that he deserved his flowers while he could still smell them.
“Skipper, you’ve taken goalkeeping to a whole different level. SA has given the world the best goalkeeper of all time.”

When Bafana Bafana beat South Korea 1-0 on 25 June 2026, Khune showed the same love online after Williams made his way off the pitch to greet him in the stands. The victory saw the South African team head to the international tournament’s knockout stages for the first time.
He wrote, “Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realise they were the big things. Thank you so much for this historic moment. It really made me emotional and happy.”
