Social media reacts to Sandile Mantsoe’s conviction

by Kwanele Mathebula
Sandile Mantsoe

Sandile Mantsoe was found guilty of premeditated murder, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm & defeating the ends of justice in the muder case of Karabo Mokoena. Karabo’s body was found burnt beyond recognition by a passer-by in Lyndhurst, Johannesburg in April 2017.

Acting Judge Peet Johnson delivered the judgement at the High Court‚ sitting in Johannesburg‚ saying “there was nothing to be afraid of because everyone would see what he saw and get to the same conclusion that he did. He made no alarm or told anyone that she committed suicide which would be the first thing that any sound person would have done. The last thing a person would do if he finds a loved one who has committed suicide … would be to try and exonerate themselves. The accused caused the body of the deceased to burn beyond recognition and then tried to conceal the fact that she was dead and he got involved in a web of lies.” Sentencing will be take place on the 3rd of May 2018.

Here’s a look at what social media had to say.

Thank God. One step closer to Justice for #KaraboMokoena https://t.co/VmNAWjxWVi

Thank you Judge Johnson! #SandileMantsoe must serve the longest possible sentence. He is the devil personified. RIP babygirl #KaraboMokoena ❤️ https://t.co/P6UFEsYDxl

Karabo Mokoena was missing on the 28th of April 2017. Her brutal murder was announced on the 11th of May 2017. Today on the 2nd of May she finally received the justice she deserved. It won’t bring her back but it is a healing step. That animal didn’t get away with it. The system didn’t fail her. No other woman will be victimised by him. #justiceforkarabo #karabomokoena #juticeday

Well done to the NPA & SAPS for securing a guilty verdict against #SandileMantsoe. They must now push for the maximum possible prison sentence. The killing of women must stop. At least he won’t be killing any daughters and sisters while in jail.

I hope the verdict on #KaraboMokoena ‘s murder trial against #SandileMantsoe will teach us men that NONE OF US OWN WOMEN. If we abuse , hurt or even worse kill them, we’ll be met with a great might of the LAW, of which none of are us are above!!

I wish him a very painful and long sentence where he spends each and one of his days suffering! #KaraboMokoena https://t.co/RFpQZnP2Q7

GUILTY! Thank you Lord! Nothing can bring her beautiful soul back but at least her family can put this tragedy behind them knowing that the justice system hasn’t failed them! Now can we sentence him to LIFE IN PRISON.#KaraboMokoena

Sandile killed #KaraboMokoena because he’s evil. This “slay queen, gold digger, addicted to the high life” narrative is disgusting. I also need to know when “slay queen” became a derogatory word used to put women down. Ukunya.
