A social grant, also known as a social welfare grant, is a government-funded program that provides financial assistance to eligible individuals or families who are in need.
In the context of children, social grants are typically provided to support their well-being, education, and health.
This is to help with poverty alleviation, promoting education, improving health outcomes and protecting vulnerable children.
By providing social grants, governments aim to ensure that children have access to basic needs like food, shelter, education, and healthcare, ultimately promoting their overall well-being and development.
A story of a 37-year-old woman who is a mother to nine young children amazed a number of people after learning that she has not been supported by the government since November 2024.
Liziwe Mgxekwa from the Eastern Cape has not received any
help from SASSA because her children lack the necessary documents.
She shared that she has been living in an electricity-free shack since 2022 after her home was destroyed. Neighbours shared that the woman was promised a proper home but officials failed to deliver.
As reported by NewsRoom Afrika, her eldest son dropped out of school in grade 10 after being involved in a car accident. While the rest are sent to school without proper uniform.
However, it was shared that SASSA recently visited her with groceries and made a promise to deposit the money into her account for the next three months.
As much this might not be enough, but there will be a bit of change in her and her children’s lives.
I love me a moving story with a happy ending.
