Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa has recalled 2,275 Ford Ranger Double Cab bakkies in South Africa over a potential safety problem involving their side-curtain airbags.

According to Business Day, the recall, announced by the National Consumer Commission (NCC) on 30 August 2026, affects selected Ranger Double Cab vehicles produced for the 2026–2027 production year.
The affected vehicles were sold through Ford franchised dealerships across South Africa between 22 May and 23 June 2026. Some vehicles were also exported to Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho and Eswatini.
What was the problem?
According to the NCC, the side-curtain airbags in affected Rangers may interact with the B-pillar trim when the airbags inflate. This could prevent the airbag from deploying as intended.
There is also a risk that the B-pillar ramp could detach during deployment and become a projectile inside the vehicle. The NCC says this could increase the risk of injury to occupants when the side-curtain airbag deploys.
The issue involves a specific group of Ranger Double Cab vehicles, rather than every Ford Ranger on South African roads.

Owners urged to check their vehicles
Ford Ranger owners who believe their vehicles may be affected are being urged to contact their nearest authorised Ford dealership to arrange an inspection and any necessary repairs.
Importantly, the NCC says that all remedial work will be carried out at no cost to consumers.
Acting NCC Commissioner Hardin Ratshisusu has urged owners to contact Ford without delay because the recall involves a safety-critical component.
Ford also provided an online recall service where owners could check whether their vehicle is affected using its 17-digit VIN.
For Ranger owners, the message is straightforward: check your VIN and, if your bakkie is affected, arrange an inspection with an authorised Ford dealer as soon as possible.
