Reasons to forgive someone who has wronged you

Forgiving someone for their wrong doings does not mean that you have forgotten what they did to you, it just means that you have chosen to look past the hurt and focusing on bringing aligning yourself with the positive.

Depending on the severity of the treatment you’ve endured from your wrong doer, some wrongs may make one feel like they will never be able to forgive the person in the wrong.

There are more benefits in forgiving your wrong doer than there are in holding a grudge. Below are a few reasons on how forgiveness is beneficial for your mind, soul and spirit.

  • Forgiveness frees you – by allowing yourself to forgive your wrong doer you are freeing yourself from their grip and inviting a positive energy and a peaceful aura, adds Psychology Today – a mental health and behavioural science online destination.
  • Forgiving gets you out of victim mode – often when people have done us wrong, we see ourselves as victims of their wrongs. “Forgiveness breaks the bonds that tie you negatively to another person,” adds the above-mentioned information source.
  • Forgiveness has health benefits – according to Healthline – a health and wellness, physical and mental health information center, forgiveness contains health benefits such as lower blood pressure. It also reduced anxiety, better sleep, improved self-esteem.
  • Forgiveness can help you reconcile – forgiveness does not always mean you have to start where you left off with the person who has wronged you, but if willing, it can open a platform to new and potentially better prospects for the relationship, adds the Healthline.
