Hacking your comfort zone

Getting out of your comfort zone is regarded as an impossible task and can be quite an uncomfortable thing to do. However, it remains necessary for one to actually grow.

Imagine being stagnant in your career, life goals or even in your relationships and you find yourself asking: “Is this it?” This is the question that should be an indicator to make some changes.

Dr Margie Warrell explains it this way: “Growth and comfort can’t ride the same horse.” She also states that we often forget about the risk of not taking risks. In other words, you risk missing out on the life you have the potential to live.

According to HackSpirit, a go-to source for transformative insight on self-improvement, it is safe to say that routines aren’t the enemy, rather, it is how you use them. Routines, when followed too strictly end up making you feel like prisoners. Yes, having systems in place makes life run more smoothly, it can save you time and can help you stay organized. However, they prevent you from exploring potentially better and new options.

“Don’t follow well-lit paths; grab a machete and hack down your own,” says author AJ Leon.

Dr Sharon H. Porter, author and editor-in-chief of Vision & Purpose LifeStyle Magazine and Media suggests, as a starting point, writing down a list of the things that make you uncomfortable. Keep adding items to the list. Put a reward for each task and make it a habit to finish one item on your list each day or each week.
