Get your limited edition breast cancer awareness bottle & bag

by Kwanele Mathebula
Breast Cancer Awareness Bottle & Bag

Did you know that breast cancer will affect 1 in 27 South African women during their lifetimes? It’s the type of cancer that most women in South Africa are diagnosed with. That’s a lot of pain and suffering for a lot of families all over our country.

But it’s not all bad news! 95% of women will survive breast cancer if it’s detected and treated early enough. That’s why the Consol Shop is proud to be partneringwith the Breast Health Foundation to raise awareness around breast cancer and breast health this Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

So, what’s the easiest way to raise awareness around breast cancer?

The Consol Shop has designed a limited edition Consol Grip & Go bottle and eco-friendly reusable shopping bag in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Every time someone buys the breast cancer awareness bottle and bag combo (for just R55), the Consol Shop will donate R5 to the Breast Health Foundation.

Where will my money go?

The Breast Health Foundation has been teaching South Africans about the importance of self-examination and medical examinations since 2002. They want all South African women (and men) to know that breast cancer is not a death sentence, and to make sure that they have access to the help and support they need.

Through their mobile breast clinics, they’ve educated 686 000 South Africans face to face and picked up 6800 breast health issues through community education, which led to 2500 breast cancer diagnoses. These are people who would have gone undiagnosed for a longer period, decreasing their chances of survival. They are literally going to use your R5 to save lives.

How do I buy my breast cancer awareness bottle and bag?

Supporting this amazing campaign is easy. All you have to do is visit the Consol Shop and pop the bottle and bag into your basket (and if a few other Consol goodies make their way into your basket, we won’t judge you). That’s it! The Consol Shop and the Breast Health Foundation will do the rest by educating and empowering women.

Hurry to the Consol Shop at Woodmead or Stellenbosch and get shopping – the bottle and bag will only be available until stocks last!

What else can you do to keep the women and girls in your life safe?

  • Encourage them to stay healthy – lifestyle-related risk factors that increase your chances of developing breast cancer include smoking, obesity, physical inactivity and alcohol consumption.
  • Help them learn how to check their breasts regularly. 70% of breast cancer is found through self-checking, which is why it’s so important to do it properly. Click here for the Breast Health Foundation’s guide on how to do a breast exam.
  • Remind them to book regular mammograms after they turn 40.
