Before the rush of the day begins, taking a few minutes to stretch can do wonders for both your body and mind. From helping with injuries to just wanting to satisfy your limbs, the pros of morning stretches make them a simple yet powerful way to start your day on a positive note.

The information hub Pliability provides a list of beneficial reasons why you should get up and stretch in the morning, as explained by Jake Harcoff, a certified strength and conditioning specialist.

1. Reduces aches and pains

After a long and hopefully good night’s rest, the lack of movement can make our muscles grow tight. Stretching can help loosen the muscles and release the tension.

2. Help boost energy levels

Stretching soon after you wake from your slumber assists in reenergising your mind and body.

3. Improves your posture

Jake explains that stretching can help maintain optimal muscle length and balance throughout the entire body. Unhealthy habits, such as excessive sitting or even carrying a heavy bag on the same shoulder, can often lead to poor posture.

4. Promotes mindfulness

Stretching is also an opportunity to practice mindfulness by connecting your body and breath. It can foster a sense of calm for anyone starting their morning on a bad note.

5. Enhances digestion

Morning stretches can be beneficial to your digestive system. Gentle stretches, especially targeting the abdominal area, can promote positive gut health.

6. Reduces your risk of injuries

A quick stretch, the first thing out of bed, can prevent you from injuring yourself. It allows the joints to move freely by increasing flexibility and range of motion.
