Need a pick-me-up? Try these emotional wellness hacks

Some days, your mood just refuses to cooperate—whether it’s the weather, a stressful inbox, or just one of those blah moments you can’t quite shake. A little emotional pick-me-up doesn’t have to be complicated.

Small but intentional acts can work wonders for your mood. Think of these as tiny life hacks for your happiness—because sometimes, all you need is a nudge (or a dance break in your kitchen) to feel a little lighter.

The HealthShots publication states that emotional wellness involves managing emotions, such as stress, sadness, and anger, to maintain balance and cope with challenges. It is also mentioned that it involves understanding and expressing feelings in healthy ways, fostering meaningful relationships, and bouncing back when things get tough.

The above source further states that emotional wellness can be improved by starting journaling, which helps understand emotions and stress levels. “Another great tip for emotional wellness is working out. Exercise isn’t just for weight loss or six-pack abs, it’s also a mood booster. It lowers stress hormones like cortisol and makes you feel good by releasing endorphin, the happy hormone.”

Boxing can help channel the energy of emotions, making it cathartic and empowering, claims the Vitality website. It is explained that consuming brain-boosting foods like coloured veggies, oily fish, whole-grains, nuts, and dark chocolate can help with lethargic feelings.

These foods are said to be rich in polyphenols and polyunsaturated fats, which are associated with better brain health. The source above further mentions that fibre also helps gut bacteria thrive and produces anti-inflammatory short-chain fatty acids essential for mental health. A Mediterranean-style diet has been linked to higher memory and thinking test scores in the late 70s, according to Vitality.
