Have you recently noticed more hair on your brush? Although there are numerous causes of hair loss, a hidden cause could be a deficiency in vital nutrients.

For our hair to remain strong, glossy, and healthy, our bodies need a mix of vitamins. It may be time to examine your diet if your hair appears lifeless or thin.

Medical News Today claims, “A person may lose hair as a result of a health-related issue, such as alopecia areata, a nutrient deficiency, or medication use. Treatment for hair loss will depend on the cause, but avoiding heat on the hair and following other lifestyle tips may help.”

“B vitamins play a role in lots of bodily functions, including cell division. Biotin is a type of B vitamin (B7) that helps the body convert food into energy and manage cell communication,” according to Verywell Health.

The above health website also states that hair shedding and loss may indicate a lack of biotin. Hair loss can be prevented by taking biotin if you are deficient.

According to the Health publication, here are the four phases that are experienced by hair follicles:

  • Anagen phase: Growth
  • Catagen phase: Transition
  • Telogen phase: Rest
  • Exogenous phase: Hair release

The health hub mentioned above further explains that although, healthy skin and hair depend on consuming enough vitamin A, taking too much of it through retinoid skin treatments or excessive supplementation might have unexpected side effects like hair loss.

“Always consult a healthcare provider before trying a supplement, especially since supplementing with certain vitamins like D, A, K, and E can build up in your system and reach toxic levels,” the above health source advises.
