Tattoos: Benefits to taking proper care of your body art

Tattoos have become one of the most popular trends in the 21st century. While the act of getting one done was seen as taboo during its earlier years, it is now widely regarded as an expression of art, personality, creativity, and culture.

While most tattoos are generally long-lasting and permanent, there is a great possibility that your tattoos could potentially fade away – that is if you do not take proper care of them.

There are several reasons why people’s tattoos fade over time, some include having too much exposure to the sun, over-exfoliation, not following aftercare instructions, going to an amateur tattoo parlor, as well as aging.

What is the best way to care for tattoos?

Follow proper instructions from day 1

According to Mad Rabbit – a company specializing in the manufacturing and sales of tattoo aftercare and tattoo skincare –, it is important to start your skincare journey as soon as you walk out of the tattoo parlor.

The above-mentioned source states that the number one rule to prolonging your tattoo is to resist scratching one’s skin during the healing process.

Doing so might cause complications including a distorted image, scars, and infections.

Consider its positioning before getting it done

It is said that areas like palms and feet are high-risk areas that could result in the fading of your tattoo. This is due to its positioning which allows it to be exposed to constant friction.

It is therefore important that you be mindful of your tattoo’s positioning from day one.

Hydration

Hydration has always been known to provide one’s skin with unlimited advantages. Maryland Institute of Plastic Surgery highlights that drinking enough water not only helps your skin glow, but it also tightens the skin, has anti-aging benefits and improves the skin tone. All of which aids the quality and durability of your tattoo.

Moisturize

While water works from the inside out, it is extremely important to be covered from the outside inward. This is why it is important to moisturize your tattoo. It is extremely important as this protects your skin from sun rays and prevents your skin from drying and cracking. Not doing so causes your skin to itch and burn due to a lack of moisture.
