Are men really attracted to women with red manicures?

The allure of a red manicure—bold, classic, and undeniably eye-catching—has sparked curiosity for years. Is there truth to the idea that men are especially drawn to women sporting this fiery shade? There’s a saying I once heard that says “A woman with red nails means business,” there’s just something about the colour that gives “boss moves”.

According to Very Well Mind, the red nail theory suggests men are more attracted to women wearing red nail polish due to their perceived confidence, femininity, and sensuality. It is further stated that a 2008 study also argues that men rated women wearing red as more attractive and sexually desirable.

The above source continues to mention that the red nail theory is legit, as both biology and Hollywood influencers suggest it holds significant power in attracting potential partners. “Science (and personal experiences!) say the red nail theory is legit. So if you thought the red nail theory was a fluke, research shows that it’s quite legit. From biology to the influences of Hollywood, there’s no denying the power the colour red holds in attracting a potential mate.”

Science has also shown that men are attracted to the colour red, likely because it is the colour of blood, which is the easiest signal the body can produce to advertise fertility, states Your Tango. The mentioned source claims that in 2008, psychologists from the University of Rochester found that the colour red makes men feel “more amorous toward women” through five conducted experiments. “So, while red may not be your nail colour of choice, know that wearing it may just get guys’ heads turning.”
