Born in Ekurhuleni on 23 August 1983, Tshidi grew up during a pivotal moment in the nation’s history. Experiencing South Africa’s transition from apartheid to democracy shaped her outlook on justice and accountability. She carried those values into her career, where she consistently reminded leaders of their responsibility to the people.
After earning her degree in communications, majoring in journalism and politics, from the University of Johannesburg in 2008, she began her career at Eyewitness News (EWN). Starting behind the scenes in production roles, she later moved into political reporting, where her calm and clear analysis earned her a loyal following.
A career defined by courage and mentorship
Tshidi’s professional journey included work at Power FM and News24 before she returned to EWN, where she rose to the position of Associate Editor for Politics. She was celebrated not only for her sharp interviews but also for her mentorship of younger journalists, often taking time to guide and encourage those entering the newsroom.
Her podcast, Politricking with Tshidi Madia, became a trusted space for candid political conversations. Through it, she interviewed prominent figures, including President Cyril Ramaphosa, and offered listeners insight into how political decisions affect ordinary lives.
In 2025, she gained further prominence for her coverage of the meeting between President Ramaphosa and US President Donald Trump in Washington, an assignment that underscored her reputation for international credibility.

Although Tshidi never married, she was deeply loved by her family and friends, who described her as a source of joy, humour, and care. Her family’s tribute painted her as not only a professional force but also a daughter, sister, and friend whose warmth matched her journalistic brilliance.
