Multi-award-winning South African actress Thuso Mbedu has clinched another notable role in a new film titled Children of Blood and Bone.

Thuso who will play the character of Zelie Adebola is renowned for roles she portrayed on The Underground Railway, and The Woman King among others will now play alongside other internationally acclaimed thespians like Amandla Steenburg, Idris Elba, Viola Davis and Damon Idris among others.

This highly anticipated film directed by US film director, Gina Prince-Bythewood will premiere on the 15th of January 2027.

Thuso took to her Instagram page to share the news. In her caption she revealed that she was gifted a book titled Children of Blood and Bone in 2019, upon reading it she fell in love to the point that she turned it into a prayer point that should it be turned into a film, she would like to play a lead role.

“Before heading to Philly earlier last year I felt the most random need to go through old journals and there it was; a prayer point, a bold ask to God to be the lead of this amazing story. To sit here and draft this announcement is mind-boggling, and to know that I have the opportunity to work with some of the most amazing people as we tell this great story is truly humbling. I’m so excited. I’m so grateful,” she penned.

The thespian also shared a clip showing her journal where she wrote her prayer of wanting to play a starring role.
