The actor shared an emotional message celebrating Lefika and his Fourways team following a weekend of intense competition, praising the young players for their talent, commitment and passion.

A proud moment for the Mokoena family

Thapelo took to social media to celebrate the achievement, describing himself and his family as “Proud parents” of an U8 MSSoccerSchools World Cup champion.

He congratulated Lefika and his teammates, highlighting the hard work that went into their success.

The actor wrote: “We are super proud of you, Lefika, and your incredible Fourways team. A weekend filled with so much talent, heart, passion & commitment.”

For the family, the victory represents more than simply a trophy. It is a reflection of the years of effort and support that have gone into Lefika’s football development.

Four days of intense competition

Thapelo revealed that the tournament involved four days of gruelling competition, making the team’s achievement even more significant.

The young players had to maintain their focus and energy throughout the tournament as they competed against other talented teams. Despite the intensity of the competition, the Fourways side managed to come out on top and claim the World Cup title.

For Lefika and his teammates, it was an opportunity to gain valuable experience at a young age while competing in a major youth football tournament.

Thanking Mamelodi Sundowns

Thapelo also used the opportunity to thank Mamelodi Sundowns for the journey and inspiration provided to the young players. He acknowledged the contributions made over the years, saying that the daily work and dedication were beginning to pay off.

“Thank you, Sundowns FC, for the inspiring journey thus far. The daily contributions over the years are paying off.”

The message reflects the important role that youth development programmes can play in helping young footballers develop their skills and confidence.

“Our first World Cup”

The achievement was particularly special because it marked the young team’s first World Cup experience. However, Thapelo made it clear that winning the tournament does not mean the work is finished.

Reflecting on what lies ahead, he wrote: “Now the real work begins and to be honest continues. Back to the drawing board, my boys, we keep moving.”

His words emphasised the importance of remaining focused despite early success.

For the young players, the experience provides an important foundation as they continue developing their football abilities.

Celebrating the journey

Thapelo’s message was ultimately less about the trophy and more about recognising the dedication behind the achievement.

From the young players putting in the work on the pitch to the parents and coaches supporting them, the victory represents a collective effort.

For Lefika, becoming a World Cup champion at U8 level is a special milestone that he and his teammates can celebrate, while also serving as motivation for the next stage of their football journey.

As Thapelo put it, the real work continues.

For now, however, the Mokoena family has every reason to celebrate a memorable achievement and a proud moment in Lefika’s young football career.
