Actress and singer, Siyakha Khitha Tshayela recently opened up about her disqualification from the reality singing show, Idols SA.
Siyakha is known for her work on Joyous Celebration, an acclaimed and multi-award-winning gospel choir, as well as her solo career. She released songs such as Ndisondela and Amanxeba. Siyakha also made an appearance on a musical play named Faith, and on 1802: Love Defies Time.
She debuted her music career with her entry on Idols SA in 2016. Recently, she spoke to Lungelo KM on his YouTube podcast; Engineer Your Life – where she shared how she was blocked from her singing career for five years after her disqualification on the singing competition; leading to her losing hope in her dreams and feeling depressed.
She told Lungelo that she entered Idols SA because she did not want to sing gospel music.
“When I went to Idols, I was never mentally ready. I went there with the mindset to win and buy myself a house. I wanted to be a star but I was never ready,” she shared.
Siyakha was disqualified from Idols SA after reaching the Top 16.
“I would be signing court papers everyday. My lecturer Mr Zonke, would come from class to the Idols house; because there was a company behind me urging me to quit Idols. They were suing me for R180 000, because I had 18 masters with them. While I was looking at that, they said I should sell my house. I nearly lost my home, because what I was going through was a lot,” she said.
The 32-year-old shared that Idols SA helped her through her ordeal with this company, even though they didn’t have to.
“With Idols, if they discover things like that you are immediately disqualified. They don’t even help you. You are disqualified because you know the rules and you didn’t follow them, and there is nothing they can do. But by God’s grace they were helping me. I wasn’t even supposed to reach the Top 16, but God elevated me,” said Siyakha.
The singer shared that her plate was full, because as she was fighting her case in court, she also had a binding contract and on the other hand she was trending on social media platforms.
She expressed that she did not think she would make it out of that situation, but with God on her side, she conquered. The singer also shared that the sticky situation she found herself in taught her that everything is dealt with in prayer.
