Over the years, the show introduced audiences to some of South Africa’s most memorable television characters and launched the careers of several actors.

Daniel Nyathi’s reign

One of the show’s earliest and most iconic figures was Daniel Nyathi. As the powerful patriarch of the Nyathi family, Daniel’s complicated relationships and business dealings created some of the soapie’s most gripping storylines.

His influence on the show’s early success remains one of Scandal!‘s defining chapters.

Thembeka Shezi: The queen of drama

Few characters captured viewers’ attention quite like Thembeka Shezi. Portrayed by acclaimed actress Masasa Mbangeni, Thembeka became one of the most talked-about characters in South African television history.

From her dramatic rise to power to her shocking exit, Thembeka’s storylines delivered unforgettable television moments and earned widespread praise from fans and critics alike.

Romeo and Xolile’s tumultuous love story

The on-again, off-again relationship between Romeo Medupe and Xolile Langa became one of the soapie’s most beloved story arcs.

Their romance, heartbreak, and family struggles resonated with audiences and helped define an era of the show.
