Prudence Sekgodiso is in the house! Smashes 800m indoor record in debut

After pulling off an impressive performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, highly decorated sprinter Prudence Sekgodiso has announced her return to the track field with a bang as she smashed the national 800m indoor sprint record.

With an extensive resume, that includes being a gold medalist at the African U18 Championship and as well as being a five-time SA Athletic Championships winner, Prudence Sekgodiso has emerged as the next apparent heir to Caster Semenya’s throne as she continues to dominate the field. Mzansi now looks to her to avenge her predecessor, who fell victim to an unjust system.

The middle-distance runner made her to the track field through the Belgrade Indoor Meeting which took place in Serbia. She kicked things off to a great start as she obliterated the national 2:06.05 record previously held by Dominique Scott-Efur back in 2016. Prudence managed to slash almost four seconds from the record, recording a time of 2:02.30.

This impressive showing and start is merely the beginning for Prudence as she looks to build from her performance at the Olympics as well as in Serbia. She is one of the few promising track and field prospects that mzansi currently has to boast as they work on ‘Project 2028 LA Olympics’, where expectations for a higher medal count will be enormous from Mzansi.
