Nsikelelo Mthiyane is grateful for her breakthrough, as she recently scored the lead role of Sibongile that was previously played by Luyanda Zwane on Sibongile and The Dlaminis.

Nsikelelo who hails from Richards Bay in KwaZulu-Natal, has started shooting her role on the soapie where she will be seen in July for the second season. She will be portraying the character of Sibongile Mbambo, who is an innocent rural young woman forced to leave her family and dreams behind. She later becomes a domestic worker in the lavish mansion of the affluent Dlamini family.

In an interview with the entertainment publication, Sunday World Nsikelelo said she has always aspired to be an actress from the tender age of 14.

“At the beginning of the year, I joined an agency for extras and was called to be an extra on Sibongile and The Dlamini’s because Luyanda had already left,” said Nsikelelo.

The breakout star said during her wardrobe check as an extra, she was given a script to audition but had no idea it was for the lead role. She was later told that she had secured the role of Sibongile.

“It’s a surreal feeling because it is a replacement role, but I’m grateful for the breakthrough because I finally get to do what I have always wanted to do. The cast members and production have been so helpful in helping me get into character.”

“I did not think it would happen this way, but I believe God has a way of placing you where you want to be in life, and I too am excited to see how people are going to react when they finally see me on screen,” she said.

Legendary actress, Baby Cele is also joining the cast of Sibongile and The Dlaminis for season 2; she will portray the character of Samkelisiwe, the sister of Bab’Ntombela.

On the DSTV website, director for local entertainment channels, Shirley Adonisi said, “We are excited to embark on this second chapter of Sibongile’s journey, and we know that the new additions and changes will make this story even more exciting.”
