Gospel singer Kelly Khumalo gave a rousing TED Talk-style speech this week on social media.
The mom of three said “When you are born and gifted with all the gifts to serve humankind, you are also gifted with the counterparts that are there to stop you.”
The singer continued by explaining that some counterparts are there to help you refine the fire of “these gifts” and to be better than the people who have come before.
“These counterparts could be situations that are there to stop you,” she added. They could be family, a husband, or even your kids. “Their mandate is to stop you,” she said.

Her overarching message was not to be attached to anyone; be able to learn to be at a place of no attachment and be willing to let go when the time comes. “Your job is to serve, not to be attached.”
Kelly’s fans had much to say. Many thanked her for the advice.
An IG follower commented: “Thank you.I’ve just let go of a relationship that didn’t make sense to Me ..It was bringing stagnant in my life.”
Referring to her detachment theory, another wrote: “Thank you for the word of the day, MaKhumalo, The Voice Of Africa.”
X (formerly Twitter) users weren’t as motivated by her message and said their piece.
“The only thing that’s powerful about Kelly Khumalo is her sangoma….” wrote an X user.
Another added: “She thought she was getting deep mara said a lot of nothing nje!”
Of course some went off-script and spoke about Kelly’s “new face”, saying she looked different.
Another responded that her voice changed as well and that she appeared tired.
Kelly made headlines last week when fellow muso Arthur Mafokate addressed dating rumours. Shortly after the release of ‘Ngeke’, he told the ‘Daily Sun’ that whenever they are in a good mood, they record songs together.
