Veteran TV and radio presenter, Melanie Bala has proudly announced that her son who recently turned 18 has finished high school.

The 51-year-old broadcaster renowned for her stint on Bop TV, Metro FM and her talk show Let’s Chat with Mel recently took to her Instagram page to share the end of the era. In the post, Mel shared a picture of the first day of school of her son in 2021 and the last day in 2024.

Captioning her post: “We’re done, no more school! What a wild concept, what a ride it’s been.”

Mel went down memory lane and shared the hurdles her son faced and the highlights of his school career.

“From biting your classmate in Grade R to standing up to a bully in Grade 6, to discovering and leaning into your drawing talent throughout- it’s been a joy to experience it all, even though homework in Grade 3 nearly killed us both.”

The news anchor expressed gratitude to her son for being a good child, she said although they had their wobbles, her son always learnt his lesson from them and did better. She also thanked him for working hard and helping his sister with math.

“The world is yours! I wish you Godspeed and glory! Always remember who you are, and who you belong to,” she noted.

Mel shares two children with her former husband musician, Mzwandile ‘Zwai’ Bala, the duo has been co-parenting since announcing their divorce in 2017.

Speaking to True Love, she said: “I think the secret to healthy co-parenting is that the kids must always come first. In every decision you make, you have to put your ego aside and say: What works better for them? I remember Demi Moore (after her divorce with Bruce Willis) said, ‘My kids may land up on a therapist’s couch, but it won’t be because of the divorce’.”

Recently Mel took to her Instagram page to wish her son a happy birthday as he turned 18.
