With her entry in the Young Basotho Designers Collection (YBDC) for 2024 by Aranda Textile, singer and songwriter, Malehloka Hlalele better known as Maleh, used her blanket design to pay homage to her late grandmother.
Maleh took to her Instagram and shared that the design for her blanket which she named Kobo ea Poloko, was inspired by her late grandmother, Matlelima Anna Hlalele. Adding to that, she said above all her grandmother’s achievements in life, the most important role she played was being a spiritual leader and nurturer in their lives, as the matriarch of the Hlalele family.
The songbird remembered her grandmother as a homemaker and a woman of faith, who reached her destiny and fulfilled her purpose.
Taking to her Instagram page the Chimsoro hitmaker shared that her family recently celebrated her late grandmother, captioning her post: “Today my family celebrates my late grandmother nkhono Matlelima Anna Hlalele. She inspired my recent collaboration with Aranda Textiles for Kobo ea Poloko. She was a wonderful woman of faith and we honour her memory today as we celebrate what would have been her 94th Birthday. A life well lived, we will always love you,” she noted.

The muso is also set to host a Kings Kraal dinner with Maleh, where women will be celebrated and the Kobo ea Poloko blanket launch will be held at Bryanston, Johannesburg. There will be an intimate dinner, with African cuisine and live African music for entertainment. The event will be held on the 8th of August at 7 pm, and tickets will cost R300.
