In a recent social media post, Kabelo revealed that he has been working in the studio on what he describes as a “one-of-a-kind song.” While he promises another upbeat track, the project carries a message that goes beyond entertainment: helping people understand HPV and why awareness matters.

The initiative forms part of a campaign supported by pharmaceutical company MSD to increase awareness of HPV and encourage more people to talk openly about the virus.

A personal mission behind the music

For Kabelo, the project is particularly meaningful because cancer has affected his family and close friends. He explained that, as a family that embraces an active lifestyle and makes informed choices, any opportunity to raise awareness about the disease is precious.

The musician also acknowledged the importance of supporting MSD’s awareness campaign, which aims to broaden public understanding of HPV and encourage more open conversations about prevention.

His wife, actress Gail Mabalane, has also been involved in the creative process, with Kabelo describing her as a co-pilot on the project.

The song is expected to be released on Spotify and Apple Music once a final announcement has been made.

Understanding HPV and why awareness matters

Human papillomavirus, commonly known as HPV, is a widespread virus that can affect both women and men.

According to the , around eight out of 10 sexually active people will contract HPV at some point in their lives. One of the challenges surrounding HPV is that it often causes no visible signs or symptoms. This means people may carry and transmit the virus without knowing they have it. Although most HPV infections clear naturally, persistent infections with certain high-risk types can lead to cancer.

Almost all cases of cervical cancer are linked to high-risk HPV infections, highlighting the importance of prevention, awareness and access to appropriate healthcare.

HPV can also cause other cancers and health conditions, which is why awareness should not be viewed as an issue affecting women alone.

Encouraging conversations about prevention

Kabelo is encouraging people to take an active role in understanding HPV and speaking to healthcare professionals about prevention.

HPV vaccination can help protect against certain HPV-related cancers and diseases. Healthcare professionals can also advise on vaccination eligibility, cervical cancer screening and other ways to reduce risk.

While fans await the release of his new song, the musician hopes the project will help make conversations about health more accessible and encourage people to take their wellbeing seriously.
