Cape Town Mayor and Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Geordin Hill-Lewis is trending after a surprise visit to Mitchells Plain, where he stopped for a casual haircut—an unexpected moment that quickly went viral.

Geordin was spotted getting a haircut from a young local barber, reportedly as part of his visit to the area. The interaction, shared on social media, showed the mayor sitting down for a quick trim while engaging with community members.

In his own post, he kept things light, thanking the barber and joking about his fresh look after the visit. The moment struck a chord with many South Africans, especially residents of Mitchells Plain. Locals praised the mayor for supporting small businesses. Others highlighted the importance of leaders engaging directly with communities, while social media users flooded comment sections sharing positive reactions, with some even jokingly calling him “presidential material”.

On the video clip he shared on his Facebook page, one user said: “You must run for president Geordin.”

Another one added: “This is what South Africa needs.”

While another one said: “May God guide you and protect you in every step of the way in your journey forward. Make the deference.”

While it may seem like a simple gesture, many interpreted the visit as part of a broader effort to connect with everyday South Africans, highlight township entrepreneurship and show visibility in communities often overlooked. The barber, described as a young entrepreneur, was reportedly surprised by the visit, making the moment even more impactful.
