Floyd Shivambu’s ‘Mayibuye’ political movement gains momentum

Just as chatter of his inevitable downfall gets louder by the day, MKP’s Floyd Shivambu’s attempt to resuscitate his political career involves the ‘Mayibuye’ movement, which speaks to progressive South Africans.

‘When it rains it pours’ appears to be a fitting phrase to describe Floyd’s political career, particularly since his unexpected move to Jacob Zuma’s Umkhonto Wesizwe Party (MKP). What was once deemed by the public to be a sly, yet calculated move has been labeled as the beginning of the end for Floyd, as his public image has been surrounded by nothing but uncertainty and controversy.

After being appointed as MKP’s Secretary General (SG) merely three months after joining the organisation, the former EFF member and cofounder has found himself in a tricky position, as he was recently demoted from his SG responsibilities, leaving the public wondering where his future lies.

Recently, his public image appears to be showing some signs of life as he took to a media conference to reveal plans of a potential new political movement. Although ‘Mayibuye’ has been described as a movement, some users have revealed that they believe that this is Floyd testing the waters to establish it as a new political party, as it seeks to addressing systemic issues like poverty, inequality, and political mismanagement in South Africa.

Social media users have noted the timing of the unfolding of these events, as MKP recently named nine new members that will be filling their vacant parliament seats, and contrary to their previous announcement, Floyd’s name was not on that list.

According to Floyd, the movement has already generated some significant attention, and has seen a significant amount of people registering as volunteers for the movement.
