DJ Poizen’s family breaks their silence

The family of house musician DJ Poizen, real name Caven Masetla-Moshoane, recently confirmed his death and shared that the details of his memorial service, which will be held in Johannesburg to accommodate his fans and family, will be shared later in the week.

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) the family said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Caven Masetla-Moshoane, widely known as DJ Poizen, who tragically lost his life in a car accident on Saturday, 30 August 2025. He was 35 years old.”

His family remembered him as a loving father, devoted partner and the undisputed king of Bassline.

“We are deeply hurt by this sudden loss, and the family kindly requests privacy as we mourn our beloved DJ Poizen,” read the statement.

DJ Poizen passed away in a horrific car accident that claimed four more lives, and injured two people, including popular musician Chymamusique.

The accident occurred on Saturday morning on the N1 near Ysterberg Mountain, outside Polokwane.

Departmental spokesperson Tidimalo Chuene said two sedans collided head-on before catching fire. Tidimalo added that four of the deceased were burnt beyond recognition.

“Preliminary reports suggest one of the vehicles may have attempted to overtake when the crash occurred. Although the investigation is ongoing, reckless driving has not been ruled out as a contributing factor.”
