It is often said that with great power comes great responsibility, and for Humile Mashatile this appears to be the case, as she has now committed herself to more important tasks following her husband Paul Mashatile’s recent appointment as the new Deputy President of South Africa.
Humile has come under lots of criticism in recent weeks. This comes after allegations that she dumped the foundation that was opened in honour of her late husband Songezo Mjongile.
According to TimesLive, the pair married in 2011, with more than 450 guests in attendance. With their marriage nearly lasting a decade, Songezo later died in 2020 after he was diagnosed with colon cancer. A year later, she launched a cancer foundation in honour of him called the Songezo Mjongile Foundation.
However, a source with close ties to the foundation recently spoke to TimesLive revealing that Humile has ghosted the organisation around May last year, the same time she married to, now, deputy president Paul Mashatile.
The source told the publication that ever since her marriage to Paul, it seems as though everything has changed.
“Everything now is focused towards her marriage and other avenues of her business. It’s sad what’s happening, and people were looking forward to the growth of this foundation, but it’s going nowhere,” an anonymous source revealed.
However, Humile later provided clarity on the matter. In a message communicated to the above-mentioned publication via her spokesperson. She said that while the foundation continues to hold a special place in her heart, she needed to hand over the responsibilities to the rest of her family.
“It was always a cause close to the family, who agreed to continue and further the growth of the foundation.”
She added: “In my current capacity with my husband, we have initiated the Paul and Humile Mashatile Foundation, a foundation dedicated to autistic children and children’s needs.”
