Former Bafana Bafana footballer Matthew Booth and his wife entrepreneur Sonia are officially divorced.

The former couple has been in a legal battle to split up legally and the Johannesburg High Court finally granted them their wish on Friday.

Zimoja has detailed the divorce dealings and shared that there would be no spousal support as Matthew has pleaded poverty. The pair share two children; Nate and Noah.

As many will remember, the fairytale marriage ended when Sonia in 2022 exposed her husband’s alleged infidelity in a series of explosive social media posts.

Netizens and media alike dubbed the saga Cheesecake-gate.

IOL reported that Sonia revealed how her husband’s affair started on Valentine’s Day in 2022 and that she had hired a private investigator to tail him.

At the centre of the saga was a cheesecake. Matthew reportedly made a cheesecake which Sonia thought was for their son’s birthday the next day. However, the next morning the cake and one of her Tupperware were gone. She suspected Matthew had gifted his love the cake, News24 reported.

The other woman was revealed to be Bongani Mthombeni-Moller, a mother of two.

Matthew and Bongani have since made their relationship official by sharing snaps. The loved-up couple was attending a wedding in January 2024.

In a cheeky move entrepreneurial Sonia launched Marula Cheesecake Passion on Valentine’s Day in 2023, News24 reported.

Sonia relayed an age-old adage to You Magazine and said she is making lemonade from lemons.

The product range includes ice cream, popcorn, and liqueur.
