After actress Nirvana Nokwe recently alleged that her Red Ink co-star Bonko Khoza sexually violated her during a “fully-clothed, violent stunt scene” that occurred on 10 September 2023, Bonko denied the allegations. His statement, shared on 18 May 2026, sparked a lively conversation among many South Africans.

Bonko Khoza denies sexual violation allegations

Bonko shared a two-and-a-half-page statement explaining his side of the story, where he alleged that the scene was rehearsed in advance with Nirvana, the director, the director of photography, and the stunt coordinator. Nirvana allegedly declined the offer of a stunt double.

He noted that more than 12 crew members were on set, adding, “At no point did any of these professionals observe or report any behaviour resembling the allegations now being made.” A day after the alleged incident, Bonko requested and attended a meeting with the production team and his agent, where he raised his concerns.

He requested a follow-up meeting, and on 30 November 2023, representatives from Red Ink Productions, MNET, SWIFT, and senior crew members, as well as Bonko and Nirvana’s agents, viewed the unedited material.

“All parties confirmed that thrusting, sexual misconduct, or criminal behaviour occurred. The footage simply did not support the allegation.”

Despite everyone allegedly confirming Bonko’s innocence, the actor shared that Nirvana opened a criminal case against him with the South African Police Service (SAPS), who did not prosecute the matter. The statement also alleged that Nirvana made similar allegations against other actors.

South Africans share their take

Several local internet users quickly entered the conversation and expressed their thoughts about the allegations. Some sided with Nirvana, while others supported Bonko.

@DebbieBloodmoon shared their opinion, writing, “He said, ‘She has made other allegations in the past.’ What a way to discredit someone.”

@chinwemusic said to the actor, “Bonko, I’m praying for you and the family.”

@Mthoko_Maj wrote to the public, “The key to solving this case lies in that raw video taken on the day. Hopefully, the angles can show if there was thrusting or not.”
