Bob Marley: One Love – An icon’s quest to bring peace to the world premieres this Valentine’s Day

by Bongiwe Mati

It is just a few days before the world is set to celebrate the day associated with love, and what better way to celebrate it than with the late reggae music icon who helped put reggae music on the map, inspiring many artists across the globe with his songs of unity, love and oneness.

Born Robert Nesta Marley on the 6th of February 1945 by 18-year-old mom Cedella and dad Norval Marley, Bob Marley’s music surpassed many generations as he became bigger than he was before he passed at the age of 36.

The One Love hitmaker left this world on the 11th of May 1981 from melanoma, (an invasive type of skin cancer).

BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE premieres on Wednesday the 14th of February and will showcase the legend’s life journey with all the challenges he faced while determined to share his message of love and unity with the world.

A product of Paramount Pictures, the film boasts executive producers such as Bratt Pitt, Orly Marley, Matt Solodky, and Richard Hewitt in partnership with the late legend’s family.

Playing Bob is Kingsley Ben-Adir while his wife Rita is played by Lashana Lynch.

With the legend’s music that has transcended for many generations, earning him the love and respect of many people, including some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry globally, this movie is set to move many.

Big artist names such as Whiz Khalifa, Kelly Clarkson, Beninese-French singer Angélique Kidjo and many more have expressed how much of an icon Bob Marley is, even decades after his departure on earth.
