South African actress, Bahumi Mhlongo has recently disclosed how she copes with lymphedema.

Bahumi, who is also the daughter of renowned media personality, Somizi Mhlongo and actress Palesa Madisakwane revealed on social media that she was diagnosed with this chronic medical condition, lymphedema, over a decade ago.

This chronic medical condition has affected her leg, causing it to swell and sometimes experience discomfort or pain. Other symptoms that may be experienced are limited range of motion, skin thickening and fibrosis.

Former Reyka actress, recently took to her Instagram page to share her struggles with lymphedema with intentions of educating others about this medical condition.

She revealed that in moments when she feels pain, she keeps quiet about it to avoid being a pain to others. Bahumi revealed that she developed a toxic trait as a coping mechanism, where she neglects herself to please people around her. She advised that if one feels that they need help, they should not be ashamed of looking after themselves and ask for help.

“If God brings to attention your health— emotionally, mentally, and physically, you shouldn’t feel bad/responsible for addressing your wellbeing. Take heed. Seek help,” she penned.

Bahumi also shared that she uses God as her coping mechanism, by knowing that His grace is sufficient. She does not shy away from the fact that she sometimes battles to stay positive; and she said it’s okay to ask God questions like ‘why me?’, ‘why would you, if you love me?’ After all those questions, she revealed that she has come to realise that God is her healer, and she has faith in Him.

She also shared that she remains grateful for everything she has, including her life. Lastly, a pedicure appointment helps her through the pain that comes with lymphoedema.
