Bafana Bafana fans have called for the culprit behind the Teboho Mokoena saga to step forward and take accountability for their actions, after almost costing them three points in the World Cup qualifiers.
Bafana Bafana’s unbeaten 18 game streak has not come without its challenges, as they recently held their breath when the Lesotho Football Association (LEFA) sent a query to FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regarding Teboho Mokoena’s participation in their match-up, when he was to serve his suspension after accumulating two yellow cards.
According to the rules, a one-match suspension is mandated on any player who accumulates two cautions in two separate games. This means that Teboho became ineligible to compete in Bafana Bafana’s clash against their neighbours Lesotho.
Fortunately for Hugo Broos and his squad, it appears that they will get off on a technicality, allowing them to keep all 13 of their points and remain five points ahead of Benin, who are second in Group C. Due to LEFA failing to file a formal protest within the required 24 hours after the match concludes, the organisation’s Secretary General, Mokhosi Mohapi, revealed that they will not pursue the matter further, as they believe their failure to act on time will work against them.
“If we ever want to say we feel cheated, if the player didn’t take part would the result change, that’s what you have to look at. So we didn’t feel cheated.”

Although the matter appears to have been put to rest, South Africans have expressed dissatisfaction and frustration regarding this issue. Fans and supporters raise the point that SAFA is too big of an organisation to make such a blunder, and have called for them to reveal the individual or individuals responsible for causing immense stress and heartache for the team and its supporters.
These users believe that whoever is responsible needs to be held accountable, as the stakes were extremely high, as well as to send a message to those who follow, to ensure that everything is done with attention to detail.
