Man Crush Monday – Blayze

We came to love him for the hit track Freeze and Pose, but this good looking and talented hip-hop artist has come a long way since then.  Like most rappers you would think he’s unapproachable and cocky, but that isn’t Blayze. Instead he’s the complete opposite; a sweet, well-mannered and a friendly guy who’s focused on expanding as an artist. We sat down with him to talk about his music, ladies and his image.

Has music been your only love or have you dabbled in other things?

I’ve always loved music, but before doing music full time I worked for a corporate company doing marketing, and although I don’t plan to go back to the corporate world I still do work in marketing.

The ladies love you for your good looking body, how do you keep it well maintained?

I go to the gym six days a week and eat healthily as much as possible, which can be difficult when I have to work. But, I try following my diet and drinking as much water as I can.

How important is image, and how would you define yours?

Image is extremely important as an artist; you may have your talent, but your look is part of your branding and your packaging. You need a mental image that comes with your name. Personally, I’m known to be the buff rapper, I’m a little bit rough around the edges but I’m still your good guy.

What are your three favourite things?

Food, socialising and the gym.

Who is your favourite artist right now?

G easy because he’s great and I love Euro’s rap skills. But ultimately Kanye West, Drake and Ryan Leslie are my favourite.

If you were not in the creative space doing music or marketing what would you be doing?

I don’t see myself doing anything other than music or marketing, so I don’t think I would function; I would be lost without art.

What is your most embarrassing moment?

I’ve had a lot of glitches especially on stage, but it takes a lot to throw me off track so none of the incidents were big enough to call them embarrassing moments.

What is next for Blayze?

I would love to see my music grow, and work with more artists – local and international. I would also like to branch out into television and do something behind the scenes.
