Germiston Theatre officially renamed after Dumi Masilela

The Germiston Theatre has been officially renamed after the late Dumi Masilela. This comes a year and a half after Ekhuruleni Mayor Mzwandile Masina promised to rename it in honour of the star. Dum, who died after he was shot during an attempted hijacking in 2017, was born and raised in the area.

The Mayor shared the exciting news on social media with a snap of a street sign with the words “Dumi Masilela Theatre” on it. Simphiwe Ngema also took to social media to share a snap of herself in front of the theatre bearing her husband’s name. She shared in part, “For as long as I live, Nations will know of your greatness. #Neverendinglove#eternalcrush @dmasilela.”
