Cicely Tyson to receive an honorary Oscar

Veteran actress Cicely Tyson has been tapped to receive an honoray Lifetime Achievement Oscar. Famous for her roles in movies such as The Help, and Diary of a Mad Black Woman the star started acting in 1957. She’s won a Tony, multiple Emmys, and a Presidential Medal of Freedom. Cicely will also make history as she will become the first black woman to receive an Oscar in the honorary award category.\

“Choosing the honorees for its awards each year is the happiest of all the Board of Governors’ work. And this year, its selection of five iconic artists was made with universal acclaim by the Academy’s 54 spirited governors” said the Academy President John Bailey.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will award the honorees at a gala dinner in Los Angeles on 18 November.
