As we have seen countless times on shows like Basketball Wives and Footballer’s Wives, it’s always a bit tricky dating a popular athlete. This was no different for South African “IT” girl, Minnie Dlamini. Cheating rumours, “the Bonang incident” and more recently, soccer babe Vanessa Masilo who is rumoured as being Khune’s “side dish” seem to have played a role in this unfortunate break-up.
Lerato Kganyago and Katlego Mashego
Some say TV presenter Lerato, chose not to wear her engagement ring anymore until after the wedding and then there are others who say that she busted her Mamelodi Sundown’s striker Katlego, cheating and called off the engagement. We were really hoping this footballer-meets-it-girl combo could have ended on a happier note.
Ciara and Future
Just three months after giving birth to a beautiful son named Future Zahir Wilburn (after his father), Ciara has called it quits after allegedly being devastated at rumours that her rapper fiancé has been having an affair with his stylist, Tyrina Lee. This “trophy girl” definitely deserves a “trophy” marriage and it’s sad that Future doesn’t think the same.
Kanye West and Alexis Phifer
As it turns out, Kim was not the first to make Kanye ”Put a ring on it”. Kanye was once engaged to fashion designer, Alexis Phifer for 18 months in 2006. Although Alexis is very private and did not reveal details of their break-up, a close friend reportedly revealed that she called it off after she found naked pictures of Kim on Kanye’s phone.
Nick Canon and Selita Ebanks
Victoria’s Secret supermodel Selita Ebanks, saw Nick Canon getting down on one knee in New York City with the words “Selita, will you marry me” displayed on a giant MTV screen in Times Square in 2007. The engagement lasted just five months, with Selita stating that they just could not agree on the details of the wedding.
Eva Marcille and Lance Gross
We know Eva as the winner of America’s Next Top Model season 3 and Lance as an actor who got his big-break in the movie Our Family Wedding. This pair dated for five years after they split in 2009. In a released statement to the media, they both confirmed that it was a mutual split. In an interview with entertainment blog Necole Bitchie, Eva revealed that she was young and not yet ready to settle at the time.
Kelly Khumalo and Prosper Mkwaiwa
Kelly “the virgin” Khumalo got engaged to businessman Prosper Mkwaiwa in 2007. Their engagement was called off after rumours surfaced that Prosper was cheating on Kelly with a waitress from Witbank. Both parties have moved with Kelly having recently given birth to baby girl, Thingo, with Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, Senzo Meyiwa.
