Celeb spotting and fashion flops at the Royalty Soapie Awards

by Amanda Ndlangisa

The long awaited Royalty Soapie awards took place this past Saturday at the International Convention Centre in Durban. The ceremony was hosted by Michael Mol and Hlomla Dandala. The new kid on the block, Isibaya, cleaned out almost everything.

Winnie Modise

We would just like to say how proud we are of Winnie, these are her first awards and despite negative publicity in the run-up to the event, she proved her naysayers wrong by throwing an outstanding awards ceremony. She dressed the part in ths stunning gown that is perfect for her new slimline figure!

The hosts, Michael Mol and Hlomla Dandala

It seems like Hlomla is ageing backwards!

The red carpet hosts, Lerato Kganyago and Zizo Beda

Lerato-and-Zizo

We can hardly see Lerato amidst all that mint material (love her hair though!) and Zizo looks like she’s dressed to go clubbing.

3 Sums, Koyo and Amstel

Amstel-and-Koyo

The sequins suit with fishnets, the satin pants – we get you’re very “out there” characters but this is just too much!

Jo da Silva and her daughter

Jo-Da-Silva

Hi lows are outdated Jo… just saying!

Celeste Ntuli and Bongani Gumede

Celetse-and-Mandla

The dress does nothing for Celeste’s body, as for Bongani, he looks like he wasn’t finished dressing up, maybe he was running late?

Jessica Nkosi

The champagne colour is stunning on our March cover girl Jessica, whose soapie Isibaya stole the show!

Kgomotso Christopher and hubby Calvin

This is a beautiful couple but they look like they are going to a matric dance! Too matchy-matchy.

Simphiwe Ngema

Simphiwe-Ngema

We like the look she was going for but her dress was a little too tight, and the red shoes? Colour blocking is so 2012!

Tema Sebopedi

Tema-Sebopedi

The cut of the dress is perfect for her petite frame and her red hair is bang on trend.

Nomzamo Mbatha

Nomzamo-Mbatha
Nomzamo channels the Greek Goddess vibe – she’s a brave woman to have all that draping around her hips!

Bridget Khati and journalist Mokgadi Seabi

Bridget-and-Mokgadi

Bridget’s gorgeous dress is a David Tlale creation but her accessories could’ve been bolder.

The winners …

Tema Sebopedi and Motlatse Mafatshe took the award for the Most Outstanding Couple in a soapie. We must say, they deserved it.
