We were first introduced to Bujy when he took off the dance world on Dance your butt off. Since then, Bujy has co-hosted a drive time show on YFM with Dineo Ranaka, got his own show on Mzansi and he’s not about to stop.
Your favourite TV show is…
Definitely Cula Sibone on Mzansi Magic. It’s fun, light-hearted and very entertaining. I love how the show exposes an individual’s way of life, IQ and style in exchange for R5 000 prize money, which many people have to work 30 days to earn. (laughs)
How have you grown since Dance Your Butt Off?
SABC1’s Dance Your Butt Off came with so much fame and to be honest I wasn’t prepared for it. I just wanted to dance on TV. Losing weight was a bonus, but I never really read much into it. I’ve always been big and my weight has opened doors for me and that’s the fat truth!
What don’t you like about the entertainment industry?
I hate it when our work is taken for granted. I strongly believe our government can do so much for entertainers in South Africa, to help finance and show the world what we are capable of. Our industry needs proper investments.
How do you handle negative critics?
I have learned to never respond to negative critics, be it about my weight or sexuality. Instead, the abuse inspires me to do amazing work and to push myself more to become better. The truth is that you can never make everyone happy. My weight is the thing they criticise the most and unfortunately, for them, it’s not going to change.
What else are you working on except Cula Sibone?
I am going into music and I will be releasing a few singles that will be available on my website www.bujybikwa.com. It’s a lifelong dream and I am going to live it. I also want to sell some of my music to other artists. I am a good songwriter and I want to share my talents with the world.
What advice would you give someone who is trying to break into the entertainment industry?
They must know that many are called but few are chosen, so you must stand out and be able to back it up. Get a mentor to guide you and remember that tabloid fame does not mean fortune.
