SA musicians react to new quota for local music

Last night the SABC made an extraordinary announcement. All their stations (TV and radio) will play 90% local music for the next 3 months – starting today. After that, listeners will have to give feedback on whether the initiative should be made permanent or not.  This follows numerous debates around the issue, most recently involving heavy weight Don Laka who complained that local stations are not supportive of the SA music industry.

This is a step in the right direction for our local industry as it’ll enable more people to have access to the projects that new and well established artists are working on.
