Kaizer Chiefs’ irrational decision could prove costly

Last night Kaizer Chiefs announced on their website that they have released 20 of their senior players from the club. This was inevitable because they haven’t won any silverware this season and their supporters have become frustrated. But was this really the right thing to do given the circumstances?

It’s understandable that management has lost patience with some of the players but this decision was a bit irrational, Tshepo Masilela, Siboniso Gaxa, Morgan Gould and others helped Chiefs clinch the Nedbank Cup and League Title just a year ago under the leadership of coach Stuart Baxter. Cleaning out half of the squad will not guarantee better results. Of course the team needed new blood but letting go of senior players like Tshepo and Siboniso could cause an imbalance in the team. They may not be as fast as they used to be but their experience is priceless and having them eases the pressure on the younger players. The glamour boys could regret this decision.

Have a look at the list of all the players who have been shown the door by Chiefs and share your thoughts on this matter.
