Nail Game On Point

by Keletso Modisakeng

Move over lipsticks and shadows because the details, accessories and colours are best seen on nails. We share our favourite nails from local celebrities and the trends they are following.

Candy for Azania

anazia

From cakes to sweets, our favourite treats as children had sprinkles. Azania shows us how to rock the candy nail art with pastel colours.

Boity Blues

boity

Simplicity with a shade of blue is what Boity’s playing with. Short and neat nails are easier to maintain and quicker to change.

Bonang the Pink panther

bonang

Queen B* shares the new range from Revlon and wears the pink shade. We love the tombstone shape, which is narrow at the tips.

Diamonds for DJ Zinhle

djzionhle

DJ Zinhle is one of the best local celebrities to search if you need nail inspiration. She is not afraid to explore and always plays with texture, shape and style. We love the monochrome with diamantes nail art.

Ms Cosmo is a lady in red

mscosmo

Red is one shade that will never be outdated, be it on nails or lips. Ms Cosmo spices things up by painting her index fingers a soft pink.

Nomuzi Mabena wears stilettos

nm

“Which rock are you living under?” is the question to ask if you have tried or seen a stiletto nail shape. This trend was set to live by Rihanna and celebrities all over the world have done it. We love Nomuzi’s pearl stiletto with gold finish. Use glitter to finish the look if you do not have nail art (rocks).

Two shades of Somizi

somizi

We don’t call him SomGAGA for nothing. Somizi has never been afraid to express himself and he shows us his mood by painting each hand a different colour.

Nail Trivia: Did you know?

  • Egyptian women made red nail polish famous, as pale colours were worn by the poor while royal people wore red.
  • Purple nail polish is known to be a sign of confidence.
  • A lot of women wear nail polish as an easy accessory they don’t have to change daily.
  • Applying two coats of nail polish helps it last longer.
