DJ Zinhle on motherhood, forgiveness and empowering women

by All4Women

DJ Zinhle is one of South Africa’s most admired women. She is a successful DJ, businesswoman,  and supportive friend. She speaks about motherhood, forgiveness and empowering women.

Planning your life

DJ Zinhle is a planner. She plans everything from her annual career goals to her daily life as a mom.

“Juggling it all in heels has been tough, but planning helps – together with a supportive team and family. We all need better time-management skills. I would like to advise other women and moms to avoid burnout by taking it a day at a time. Planning is key,” she told Living and Loving in 2017.

Being a single mom

“Do it your way, figure things out, learn as much as you can, be open minded and don’t stress so much. As mothers, we stress ourselves a lot and it’s not worth it.

“Also, have fun with it! Enjoy being a mother. When I was pregnant, I heard a lot of stories about how hard motherhood is – try not to pay attention to that. People on social media always say that I make motherhood look easy. Obviously there are times that are difficult but just try to enjoy it as much as possible,” she told True Love magazine.

Support each other

Zinhle is all about girl power. She started her female DJ academy to help more women get into the industry and is admired by many of her female peers in the industry.

“This is the time for black women to be doing amazing things for themselves, especially internally, ya’ know, taking care of themselves,” she told Cape Talk in April, about women succeeding in a male-dominated world

Learn to forgive

Zinhle has had her heart broken in the past, but she has learned that holding onto grudges doesn’t do you any favours.

“The energy of not forgiving and letting go is a lot. It takes away from you more than anyone else. You have to let things go for the sake of yourself. And there’s a lot that you can learn from it. Learning comes from accepting that this was meant to happen and understanding that there’s a lesson,” she told Dennis Ngango in an interview earlier this month.

Say ‘no’ to debt

DJ Zinhle is a firm believer is saving money and living a debt-free life. She saved up all her hard-earned cash to build her dream home. Zinhle does everything she can to avoid debt.

“I don’t have any debts. I don’t owe anyone anything. I pay my SANRAL. I pay my taxes. I paid my TV licence in advance,” she told CliffCentral in 2015.
