Congratulations! Nomzamo Mbatha has a rose named after her

by All4Women

We are used to people naming their babies after their favourite celebrities, but it’s not often they can brag about having a rose named after them!

Nomzamo Mbatha had a rose named after her and couldn’t contain her excitement.

The actress took to Twitter to share a video of herself learning all about the rose that was named in her honour.

“This is our little world where we have over 800 different roses. Each rose has its very own personality, like people, and not everybody can have a rose,” a woman explains.

She then goes on to say why the rose reminded them of Nomzamo.

“She’s got the beautiful female figure. She kind of kept on reminding us of you. And the pink was so important because the pink is your heart, your warmth, that you give to the world.”

Nomzama was clearly excited by the honour and could not stop smiling.

“I feel like you are reading my palm right now,” she joked while learning about her namesake.

Nomzamo’s fans thought the name couldn’t be more fitting
“You have always been a rose in my eyes. Imbali engabuni. I Love You Nomzamo Mbatha,” one follower wrote.

Another added: “You actually are a true rose… that some of us look up to and love.”

Nomzamo is not the only famous person in SA to have a rose named after them.

A rose named after Nelson Mandela was launched in Johannesburg earlier this year, in celebration of the centenary of Madiba’s birth. The struggle hero would have turned 100 on July 18, 2018.

Horticulturist Keith Kirsten said in a statement released by the Nelson Mandela foundation that the “disease-resilient rose is a tall, orange-vermillion, prolific floribunda which grows to more than a metre in good conditions and is suitable for any sunny position”.

Another celebrity who received a similar honour was American singer Beyoncé when Australian researches named a horse fly after her. The inspiration behind it was the fact that the fly had a shapely gold behind.

The Scaptia (Plinthina) beyonceae fly from the north of Queensland is said to have been collected in 1981 which was the year Beyoncé was born and given the name to show the fun side of taxonomy, as reported in The Daily Telegraph.

Here’s a look at what  fans had to say about the Nomzamo rose:
