Beauty Talk With Jessica Nkosi

by Keletso Modisakeng

We caught up with Jessica about beauty and all things fabulous.

Jessica-Nkosi- What is beauty to you?

To me, beauty starts within; I know this may sound cliché but it’s true. The minute you feel good about yourself, even a simple application of a clear lipgloss or change in the way you comb your hair will make you feel and look beautiful.

You have amazing skin, what’s your secret?

I’m so grateful that I don’t have to break my bank account when it comes to my skincare. I use normal face wash and skin toner, but my cream is old school (laughs). I still use Cuticurer on my face and it works like a charm. It helps get rid of the rash I develop and still keeps my skin smooth.

What is your go to beauty trend at the moment?

Bright lipstick is the best trend and trick at the moment. Even without make-up your face will look completely made up because of the bright lip. I also love mascara and a bright lip during the day.

What is your take on beauty ‘enhancements’?

I’m all for enhancing your beauty when needed. The only reason I haven’t done my nails is because my character on Isibaya is a girl from the village. I’m not big on false lashes though, because I love wearing mascara and the length you get from it. No lashes ever look natural for me.

What trend do you want to ban because it’s done incorrectly?

Dear all ladies who shave all your eyebrows off and then draw them back on – STOP IT! Gone are the days of thin brows and drawing your eyebrows on. Fuller lashes are back and I love them. It’s a pity I don’t have so I work hard to fill them.

What is your favourite nail colour?

I’m in love with reds, lavender, white and maroon. These colours look good on me.

Jess-NkosiDo you ever explore with colour on your hair?

I don’t colour my own natural hair, however, with weaves and any extensions, I go all out. I would love to go red but my work restricts me.

How do you keep your natural hair healthy?

I have a good hairline, I won’t even be humble about it because I work hard to keep it healthy. Weaves grow my hair, I guess it’s how they install it that either keeps it healthy or gives you a receding hairline.

Which international celebrities are killing the make-up scenes?

JLo has mastered the natural no make-up look with make-up, which is timeless . Lim K is great on contouring. She set that trend and it blew up worldwide.

What beauty advice do you have for the younger you?

Please drink lots of water, keep away from junk food and alcohol because they dehydrate the skin. Whatever you eat shows on your face.
